Abstract :
Results of Hall effect and Hall resistivity measurements for single-phase REBa2Cu3O7-δ (RE=Y, Sm, Gd, Dy, Tm, Yb) and YBa2Cu3O7-δ single crystals around and above Tc are reported. For all polycrystalline samples the Hall numbers V 0/RHe are positive and show a linear temperature dependence in the range 120 K<T<300 K. Between 80 K and 95 K a nonlinear behavior of the Hall resistivity ρ xy as a function of the magnetic field B with a change of sign is observed in all polycrystalline samples. The strong field dependence of ρxy near Tc can be attributed to the effect of grain boundaries which can dominate the Hall resistivity by their low carrier concentration. In contrast to the polycrystals the single crystals show a linear field dependence above Tc and no change of sign in ρxy
