Abstract :
This paper aims to curtail the menace of road accidents, which has been on a constant rise in the recent years. Most of the accidents are caused due to various distractions to the driver. The systems proposed in this paper strive towards improving car safety by alerting the driver at all times, in case of any discrepancy. The proposed Driver Assistance System includes an Anti-Collision System, which continuously monitors the distance of the vehicle from the nearest obstacle ahead of it; an Accident Tracking System, which sends a message and location to the concerned authorities regarding an accident; an Automatic Dipping System, which dips the high beam of an approaching vehicle to reduce the glare on the driver´s eyes; and a Tyre Pressure Sensing System, which alerts the driver in case the tyre pressure falls below a particular threshold value. The implementation of the proposed system has been done using easily available sensors and a general purpose microcontroller. The results obtained from the hardware prototype developed are presented and discussed.
