Abstract :
Three possible VLSI implementations of real-time infinite impulse response (IIR) filters based on the state-space technique are described. The state-space representation is used to obtain a direct-form systolic array. For transformed state matrices, and advanced state-calculation array and a cascade-form of second-order structures are proposed. The advanced state-calculation array increases throughput and efficiency N+1 times at the expense of increased hardware (two times), as compared to the direct implementation. In cascade-form of second-order structures, each transformed section is implemented by parallel-processing elements This structure can result in high throughput and efficiency with less hardware
