Abstract :
In recognition of the urgent need for basic research in the measurement and automatic control aspects of aeronautics, the Foundation for Instrumentation Education and Research (FIER) has awarded a grant of $1,200 to the newly established Aerodynamics Physical Measurements Laboratory at Stanford University. According to Dr. F. E. Terman, dean of engineering and provost of the University, the grant will be matched with a similar sum by Stanford and will be used for “the development of a shock tube and associated high-speed photographic equipment for taking schlieren and shadow pictures of shock waves and for making other specialized aerodynamic measurements.”
