Abstract :
Digital cameras generate much of the data on our optical-fiber telecommunications networks. The 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics recognizes both inventions. The prize went to Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith for the invention of the CCD imager and also to the grandfather of optical-fiber telecommunications, Charles K. Kao.
