Abstract
In the latter part of 1986, Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) needed to create a 1500-bus network model for its energy management system (EMS), starting from an existing 4000-bus model. The PEPCO part of the network (the internal area) was to be used as is, but the external areas needed to be reduced and consolidated considerably. A program built to help automate and streamline the reduction process is described. The program was written using the power system simulator for engineers (PSS/E) program. Future enhancements are indicated.<>
