Abstract :
Organic compounds, particularly in the form of ultra-thin films, offer certain advantages for use in low-cost gas and vapour sensing systems. In this paper, the range of useful organic compounds is briefly reviewed and techniques to process the materials in the form of thin films are introduced. Examples of the applications of organic compounds to gas and vapour sensing are then given. The emphasis is placed on methods that can provide a means to improve the sensitivity and selectivity
