  • Abstract
Shear slips are observed and simulated in complex plasma crystals deformed by compressional waves. They are characterized by the displacement in opposite directions of two neighboring rows of grains. Complex plasmas are ordinary ion-electron plasmas enriched with microparticles or dust grains. These negatively charged grains interact with each other electrostatically and form ordered structures. Complex plasmas can exist in solid, liquid, or gas states and constitute model systems to investigate dynamic phenomena at the kinetic level in real time.
