Abstract :
Based on the so-called decoupling principle, the three-level NPC inverter can be decoupled into two three-level buck converters. With assuming balanced neutral-point voltage between the DC-link capacitors, a new discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) strategy is developed in this paper. Operation principle and simulation results of the proposed modulator are presented. Experimental results from Lab-scaled prototype are provided to verify the proposed method. Comparison of both harmonics and efficiency with other modulation methods (CPWM and DPWN) are conducted also.
