Abstract :
Necessary and sufficient conditions on the modulating functions for a digital N-path filter (NPF) to be shift-invariant are obtained. Previously used conditions are sufficient but not necessary. These new conditions allow NPFs to be designed with the smallest number of paths without the need of pre- and postfiltering by ideal low-pass filters. Some design examples are presented
