Abstract
Dual-stator, spoke-array vernier permanent magnet (DSSA VPM) machines proposed in the previous paper have been proven to be high-torque density and high-power factor. This paper presents the detailed DSSA VPM machines design process including comparison of different DSSA VPM topologies, analytical sizing equation, geometric size relationship and so on. Besides, some key parameters, such as the ratio of rotor poles to stator poles number, slot opening, magnet thickness etc., are optimized based on the finite element analysis (FEA). The combination of the analytical and FEA methods makes the design process time-saving and reliable. Finally, the design process is validated by the experimental tests on a DSSA VPM prototype.
