Abstract
The shape of MH curves for Co/Cu multilayers with Cu thickness in the range of 8-10 Å (which show giant magnetoresistance) cannot be explained by a model containing only simple bilinear exchange. We propose that the presence of ferromagnetic pinholes in the Cu spacer layer affects the magnetization of the multilayers. We fit the MH curves to the pinhole model and estimate the density of pinholes. The density of pinholes increases dramatically for tCu less than 10 Å and tends to mask the maximum of AF coupling which occurs around tCu=9 Å
