Abstract :
The influence of polarisation-mode dispersion (PMD) on the degree of soliton interaction in dispersion-managed soliton transmission systems is numerically investigated. It is shown that PMD could reduce or enhance the degree of soliton interaction depending on the fibre birefringence, and that a reduction in the degree of soliton interaction is likely to occur under realistic operation conditions, thus extending the transmission distance
