Abstract
In this paper, synchronization and droop control methods using battery energy storage (BES) have been suggested to improve to performance of Mae Sariang microgrid (MG) system in Thailand. The MG consists of a low voltage distribution system, diesel generator, and solar PV plant. The solar PV plant is connected to the MG through voltage source inverters (VSI) and step up transformers. The MG is frequently isolated from the main grid and operates as in islanding mode due to many faults, so reliability indices and power quality is very low. Then, installation of BES has been introduced to improve the MG´s reliability and power quality issues. Synchronous controller is used in the solar PV plant and BES to minimize power imbalance between DG in MG. Droop controller is used to compensate reactive power from BES. Finally, the results are useful for efficient operation of the Mae Sariang MG system.
