Abstract :
This paper discusses an original paper "Perfomance evaluation of steel-conduit-enclosed power systems" by Meliopoulos et al. (see ibid., vol. 35, no. 3, p. 515-23, 1999) and congratulates the authors on the development and verification by test of a mathematical model for calculating the impedance of power cables enclosed in steel conduits. It argues that, properly used, this model should be of considerable use to power system design engineers. It states, however, there are at least two areas in Section IV of the paper which raise questions.
