Abstract
A novel application of sampled fibre Bragg gratings for measuring arbitrary magnitudes of bending curvature and temperature simultaneously and independently is reported. Spectral splitting of cladding modes provides information on the curvature, whereas the wavelength shifts of the narrow transmission peaks facilitate measurement of temperature. A bending curvature of 11.03 m-1 was recorded corresponding to a spectral mode splitting of 126 nm
