Abstract :
This paper introduces a computational method for predicting the temperature characteristics of PTC (positive temperature coefficient) applied resin heater. In this method, a current vector analysis is coupled with a thermal analysis using the 3-D finite element method. Transient thermal analysis is carried out to compute the temperature distribution of the heater after computing the Joule loss by taking the nonlinear temperature characteristics of the resistance of PTC resin into account. The validity of this method is confirmed through the comparison with measured values
