Abstract :
A system is presented for the analysis of rotating machine concepts from experimental data. The analysis can be performed directly while hands-on expermentation is in progress. The system consists of three modules for data acquisition, data control, and a set of finite-element programs for analysis of electric machines under different conditions. The system also includes a workstation which includes the rotating machines to be analyzed, a personal computer, and a database for the constructional and electrical data of machines. Operational and control data are sent directly to the analysis programs during experimentation using the control and data acquisition modules. The developed system is part of a research project aimed at improving the understanding of energy conversion concepts and the practical study of electric machines. As a result, an energy conversion laboratory could become an in-depth analytical and practical experience in addition to performing the experiments and observing associated results. Furthermore, such a system will boost students´ creativity and increase participation in understanding the concepts of electric machines. This study provides a description of the proposed system and gives an example of its utilization in a university energy conversion laboratory
