Abstract
SWIFT is a stack-based microprocessor designed for the efficient execution of LISP and PROLOG. The paper describes the architecture of a VLSI implementation of SWIFT which gives more than 1 Mlips performance, yet only requires 16K gates. The processor was designed at a high level in ELLA and was synthesised to the gate level using LOCAM.
