Abstract :
To help you plan a trip to France, you rent an optical disk from your travel agent. When you drop it into your home hypermedia system, which links your computer with your stereo and television, a map of France appears on the TV screen. Using the remote control, you highlight the Loire Valley, and a slide show begins. Spotting an imposing castle, you freeze the slide show, and it is replaced on the screen by a textual description of the castle and its history. Highlighting the name of the nearest town brings information about a summer music festival held there, with an audio track from the event a year earlier. Hmmm, you think, what about other festivals in France? After getting a picture of special events in other areas, you select information about various hotels nearby.
