The three basic configurations of cycloconvertor, voltage-fed convertor and current-fed convertor depend on the economic availability of appropriate semiconductor devices. The various considerations of drive requirements are examined for the most cost-effective solution. These include waveform shaping for both the motor and line side, motor design, choice of drive systems and applications
