Abstract :
This letter presents a metamaterial-inspired interpretation for the behavior of the coplanar waveguide (CPW) open-circuited shunt stubs. It shows that the stubs possess left-handed (LH) bands due to the presence of the even and odd modes. The letter proposes an equivalent circuit model for symmetrical CPW cross transition. Based upon the proposed theory, a composite right/left handed (CRLH) CPW is developed. Theoretical results are experimentally confirmed.
