  • Abstract
The paper deals with the design and production of small generating plant for the Services, and in particular the Army, up to 1944. After giving an idea of the size of the demand and active service requirements it proceeds to deal with the special requirements of various powerconsuming apparatus. Descriptions, accompanied by illustrations, of the more interesting sets follow. The difficulties encountered in production and design are described, and the attributes of American sets are touched upon. In conclusion, the author emphasizes that many of the difficulties could have been avoided by intelligent anticipation during the years preceding the war, and that the post-war organization is likely to be superior in this respect. Plant used for general power production in camps, etc., does not come within the scope of the paper.
