Abstract
A new type of optical spectrum analyzer is proposed that features the cascade connection of different arrayed-waveguide gratings (AWGs) with different channel spacings through optical switches. The spectral resolution of our system is determined by the narrowest channel spacing and its available channels are ten times the original channels of the AWG with the spacing. We demonstrate the analyzer using 100- and 10-GHz spaced AWGs.
