Abstract
The United States and Japan should increase their cooperative efforts and share the cost of basic scientific research on technologies of high interest for their mutual benefit. Possible projects — identified by the U.S.-Japan Advisory Commission — are fifth-generation computers, machine translation between English and Japanese, high-energy physics, life sciences and cancer research, and development of scientific and engineering standards.
