Abstract :
Years of deliberations concerning the desirability of joining two prestigious engineering societies — the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Institute of Radio Engineers — into one culminated in the establishment of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in January 1963. It took another year to coordinate the publications of the two merged societies, so that it was not until January 1964 that the fledgling IEEE Spectrum appeared. Twenty-five years later, we celebrate our 25th year of continuous publication.
