Biggest megaflop: Touted as the first computer destined to perform 1000 megaflops thanks to its 256 processing elements, the llliac IV in the end limped along at about 15 megaflops with 64 processing elements. The project was estimated at about $8 million in 1966 but had topped $31 million when completed six years later.
