Abstract :
A comparison of two types of modulators: a semiconductor Mach-Zehnder modulator (integrated with a DFB laser) and a conventional LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulator is given for a 2.5 Gbit/s repeaterless system over 329 km of standard fibre. It is found that the two types of modulators can provide almost identical performance
