Abstract
Power consumption of an execution unit can be reduced by interchanging its two input operands. A dynamic operand interchange method using hardware decision-making logic is proposed. An efficient way to implement the logic is also described. Switching activity reduction of up to 29.6%, is obtained for multipliers
