Abstract :
A new concept of planar-core optical fibre is presented and a drawn planar-core optical fibre and a laser oscillation demonstration is given. A planar-core is a sheet structure that is put between inner clads, and the part of the inner clads with a planar-core is surrounded by an outer clad. Structural advantages include no skew-ray propagation mode, a larger core area for less nonlinear effect at high-power laser operation, and easy line beam generation. It is believed that a planar-core fibre offers a promising structure for high-power fibre lasers.
