Abstract :
This paper looks at the problem of placing static VAr compensators to provide maximum transfer capability for all possible generation mixes. The margin to low voltage limit is one of the quantities used to determine power system transfer capability. A fast method for finding the location of SVC systems that will have the greatest impact on the low voltage margin is shown. The IEEE 24 bus system is used to demonstrate this method over a wide range of generation patterns
