Abstract :
GEMISIS is a major project based on partnerships wishing to achieve user-driven exploitation of the information superhighway on a local and regional basis for the benefit of the region´s residents and employees. GEMISIS is an acronym for Government, Education, Medical, Industrial and Social Information Superhighway. The paper discusses GEMISIS 2000 which will initially focus on application and service delivery in: education, training and research; business development; community services; healthcare; and crime prevention.
