Abstract :
The essential role that electricity is seen to play in the development of society results in substantial market and associated nonmarket benefits. Examination of the relationship between total energy consumption and wealth creation and between electricity generation and wealth creation suggests that the benefits of electricity generation are at least of the same order of magnitude as economic development itself. The authors discuss spatial, temporal and statistical analyses of electricity generation and wealth creation
