Abstract :
A synthetic restatement is proposed of the so-called Poole and Poole-Frenkel effects. These effects, shown to be, respectively, the low-field and the high-field regimes of a more general effect, are described as the synthetic Poole-Frenkel (SPF) effect. Such a generalisation is achieved by means of a conjectured model of interactions between potential wells, which are taken either as Coulomb potentials or as some other forms of steeper potentials. An analysis is presented of some prerequisites of usual involvements including the assessment of potential interactions; the derivation of the field-enhanced probability of ionisation and the problems posed by the nonconvergence of Coulomb potentials. A closed-form approximate equation of SPF is proposed for easier experimental application.
