Abstract :
Dr. Hakan Partal, from Syracuse University (SU) New York, and a former PhD student of Prof. Ercument Arvas (long-time Associate Editor for Feature Articles of the Magazine), visited Doğuş University on December 29, 2010. Dr. Partal gave a presentation on their project-based microwave-circuit design courses, due to collaborations between university and industry. It was a digest of a graduate-level “Microwave Filters” course, taught at SU in Spring 2009. They divided students who enrolled the course that semester into groups, and asked each group to design, simulate, build, and test different types of microwave filters to be used in wireless-communication systems. The course was also the seed for the first “IEEE Workshop on Microwave Passive Circuits and Filters,” chaired by Dr. Partal and sponsored by the local industry and research organizations, held on April 20, 2010 in Syracuse, NY.
