Abstract :
This immersible transportable equipment was developed in collaboration with the Admiralty Signal Establishment. While intended primarily for use as a large transportable type of equipment, it is also employed in ships as an emergency transmitter/receiver for the 1.5 to 13 Mc/s band. There is also an additional receiver for very low, low and medium frequencies. The radio design generally follows conventional practice and is briefly discussed. The high-stability oscillators and frequency-setting facilities are of special interest. The mechanical design is described. Interesting features are the method of sealing against entry of water, protection by light tubular steel frames against rough handling, and the ability to float in water. Unit construction permits combinations of equipment to suit varying requirements, besides dividing the equipment into suitable loads for transportation. Successful field, ship and laboratory trials have been carried out.
