Abstract
There have been numerous calls to broaden the education of engineers and thus prepare them to serve society with an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural, political, economic and social dimensions of their work. This article describes one response to this need: a five-year “Engineering and Society” degree program, now in its tenth year at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, makes the “bridge” between technology and society both broader and longer
