Abstract :
Based on research of a variable-polarity welding arc, the phenomenon in which the time lagging in the zero crossing of the current compared to that of the voltage in the process of commutation was investigated. The effect of a “charge inertia battery” existing in the commutation process of a variable-polarity welding arc is proposed. It is presented that the current can be driven to maintain the former direction after voltage reversion due to the effect of the proposed charge inertia battery. The principle and characteristics of the charge inertia battery are analyzed, and its effect on the stability of the variable-polarity welding arc is discussed.
