Abstract :
We have developed a THz synthesizer to generate a THz continuous wave based on a broadband optical frequency comb. Using the stimulated Brillouin scattering of a long optical fiber, only two optical modes are selectively extracted from the optical comb and a highly accurate THz continuous wave is generated by photomixing. In generation of 100GHz and 700GHz waves, fractional frequency instability of 1×10-15 at 1000 seconds was confirmed. This THz generation scheme is applied to a transmission of THz frequency reference via an optical fiber. Actually a 3THz reference following the Japan Standard Time was transmitted and used for phase-locking of a THz quantum cascade laser.
