Abstract :
A high rate neutron counting is achieved while minimizing the dead-time of the counting chain. The paper shows that too short a shaping time constant gives rise to double pulses at the output of the discriminator for a single neutron. Therefore, the shaping time must be optimized in order to minimize the dead-time while also avoiding counting errors. Simulations and experimental results for a 3He chain at different shaping time constants are presented and discussed
