Abstract :
This special issue of this TRANSACTIONS is the second presenting selected papers from the Purdue Symposium on Machine Processing of Remotely Sensed Data. The January 1976 issue contained papers from the June 1975 Symposium. The issue was well received and in response the editors decided to publish selected papers from the 1976 Symposium. Of the 44 full-length papers presented at the Symposium, which was held June 29-July 1, 1976, six were selected for publication. In addition, one paper from the 1975 Symposium was selected which, in revised form, was judged appropriate for the issue. One invited paper is also included to provide coverage of the important subject of sensor design. The cover photo relates to one of the largest applications of machine processing, that being large area crop surveys. The scene is the central Kansas wheat-growing area as seen by the Landsat multispectral scanner (MSS) sensor on June 12, 1974.
