Abstract
A method is described for digitizing time intervals utilizing a single interpolator which performs a multiple interpolation at each input event. The analysis shows that the method features the shortest dead-time compared to the single- and dual-interpolation method. For a given channel width and clock period, an optimum number of interpolation steps may be found to obtain minimum dead-time of the digitizer. A model of the multiple interpolator and results of experimental tests are described in detail. A microprocessor control was utilized to calibrate and test the model automatically. Test results for a practical model of the multiple interpolator are also presented.
