  • Abstract
Operator-equipment interaction is a well-known but frustrating part of many high-precision measurements. Deterioration in performance of a high-precision balance compelled testing to identify the cause of the problem and to establish effectiveness of the solution. An unexpected result of the tests was a clear characterization of a significant operator-balance thermal interaction and verification of the empirically determined warm-up requirement. The repeatability of the interactive effect inspired development of a replacement for the operator using an “alter ego” heat source.
