Abstract
We report the ablation of an organic crystal using THz free electron laser (FEL) at the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (ISIR), Osaka university. Under the irradiation of FEL resonant for the intermolecular vibrational mode, aerosol is created from the surface of the sucrose crystal. The ablation occurs at the adequate power density without the green luminescence which indicates chemical dissociation. Our results open a new venue for the nonthermal control of materials with intense picosecond pulses.
