Abstract :
The influence of pumping mode on the output characteristic of terahertz parametric oscillators (TPO) is studied theoretically and experimentally. A multi-transverse mode laser was used as the pump source. With the improvement of the transverse mode of the pump beam, a significant increasing of THz output power was observed. The THz output energy decreased from 172nJ to 17nJ when M2 value of pump beam degraded from 4.21 to 11.1, under the same pumping energy of 120mJ/pulse. The gain enhancement effect under multimode pumping in the TPO is analyzed theoretically, which can illustrate the variation in THz output power under different pumping modes.
