Abstract :
Different techniques utilizing eddy currents in the assessment of crack existence in conducting media have been developed. This paper presents a variable frequency electromagnetic technique through which an embedded crack in a conducting medium, having large dimensions compared to its thickness, could be nondestructively located. The main advantage of this technique is its capability to locate an existing crack over a relatively large sample surface area without the need of mechanical movements. Numerical simulations demonstrating the merits of the proposed approach is presented for materials having different conductivities, permeabilities, crack dimensions and crack locations. In light of the numerical testing, advantages of the proposed approach are inferred and stated
