Improved management decisionmaking using optimization of a nonlinear mixed-integer financial model

A nonlinear mixed-integer financial model and optimization algorithm are described that support management decisions for one defense contractor. Counterintuitive insights have been uncovered that improve financial performance at less cost and with greater confidence than traditional alternatives. It is argued that normal search routines would have been unlikely to uncover these insights.
