Abstract :
New EHV XLPE (extremely high-voltage cross-linked polyethylene) cable technologies have been developed and applied to commercial service. For example, 66/154 kV XLPE cables are currently used in a new underground transmission network. The number of these cables has rapidly increased and their use has proved very satisfactory. A 275 kV XLPE long-distance underground transmission line with straight-through joints is scheduled to go into service in May 1989, while a 500 kV XLPE cable was put into operation in July 1988 as a lead cable in the Imaichi pumped storage power station. Other technologies have been developed for practical application, including 66/154 kV segmental insulated strand conductor XLPE cables for larger capacity and compact-type oil-stop joints between oil-filled (OF) and XLPE cables for partial replacement of deteriorated OF cables
