Abstract
This article compares the types of Electrical Area Classification drawings that have been prepared for chemical and petroleum processes and highlights the differences and, in particular, the application variations of NFPA 497A and API RP500. It discusses the complexities in applying these standards. Finally, it presents a technique that meets OSHA Process Safety Management requirements and has other significant advantages
