Abstract :
Banners, key tags, digital thermometer/paperweights, miniature flag sets, and many other items will be offered as mementos. Articles in The Institute, Spectrum, and Potentials will highlight the year. Seven special events, along with ceremonies, will be held at major IEEE conventions throughout the world. All this and more will occur throughout 1984. Why all the hoopla? Well, it´s not to celebrate the classic novel 1984 or even to honor the 1984 Olympics. It´s to commemorate the IEEE´s 100 years of longevity, and more important, to honor the major role that the IEEE and its predecessors, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) have played in the development of electrical science and technology.
